#QueridaAmerica #DearAmerica -- Please follow this 100-day journey!
On March 8, 2020 Bay Area Border Relief kicked off #QueridaAmerica.  Each day one letter or message from a asylum seeker in the Matamoros refugee camp (across the border from Brownsville, TX) will be posted (sometimes with an additional photo from the camp), conveying what they want people in the U.S. and the current administration to know.
We promised to share their messages. Today and every day we must remember who they are and what they are living through.  Please share with others, let people know and send to your representatives or whoever you can. Time is critical. Every day that goes by is one more day of suffering and fear. Let's hear THEIR voices. These are their words. (all letters translated from Spanish to English).

Day 24 #QUERIDAAMERICA #BORDERVOICES During this pandemic, it's more crucial than ever that we maintain community and solidarity across borders, and imagine futures beyond their constraints. Today we share this hijx's sueño-- "to be a doctor" --and send love to them, as well as all the frontline healthcare professionals (some of whom themselves are camp residents!) in Matamoros working around the clock to keep gente there safe and healthy.

Day 11 #QueridaAmerica #BorderVoices Collectively, our generosity has positively impacted these kids and their families. Day 7 #QueridaAmerica #BorderVoices #EstamosContigo
“Somos Niños y Somos Humanos, Por Favor Darnos un Oportunidad a Vivir”

(We are children and we are human, please give us a chance to live).

We promised the families that we would get their letters to Washington.
On 3/13/2020 we got to share some of the letters  and children's art from Matamoros directly with Senator Cory Booker.
Lilli Rey and Dr. Belinda Hernandez-Arriaga were able to represent Bay Area Border Relief and the University of San Francisco (#BABR and #USF) to share the voices of the families, pleading for change to happen. Senator Booker made a video for the families and told them “have faith, change is coming.”
He stressed the importance of voting to flip the Senate. That is the only way! We did our best to bring the voices of the children and we will continue to press forward to get the #QueridaAmerica letters from the border to Washington. Les prometimos y no están solos!
Thank you #SenatorCoryBooker #BayAreaBorderRelief #USF
